Fans of chocolate banana bread should head over to Williamsburg's Bakeri for a dessert that takes the sweet moist cake to its logical conclusion. Their Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding ($4) is a denser, more enriched version of the quickbread, but surprisingly not too sweet. The result is the rare bread pudding that you can eat without feeling like a nap afterward.
As you explore your slice you'll encounter large pockets of softened dark chocolate and the varying textures of bananas and baked bread. What makes it bread pudding rather than another moist quickbread? The golden brown crust, almost as burned as a French canele with a the crunch of caramelized sugar. A bit heavy for breakfast, but this slice was still warm at 10 a.m. Bananaphobes need not apply.
