Silver Moon Bakery's Scones Won't Weigh You Down
Your daily dose of something sweet.

When you buy a scone, more often than not the result is a doughy flour bomb that can send even the most die-hard bread lover into a carb coma. That's not the case with Silver Moon Bakery's Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Scone ($2.95).

The exterior.
There are a few interesting aspects to this scone that separate it from the pack. For starters, the well-baked exterior crumb has just the right amount of crunch. It's satisfying to bite into but not too chewy or hard to feel like work. Second, Silver Moon has added some crunchy seeds to the batter that function much like puffed rice, adding a touch of poofy crisp to go along with the dark chocolate chips. And the chips are first-rate with a nice chocolate aroma that you can detect before you even remove the scone from the bag.

The interior.
A similar version is offered in Blueberry ($2.95) with standard white flour, but I prefer the extra flavors and textures in the whole wheat chocolate chip version.
