With cold weather like this, comfort food like apple pie is just the thing, and Williamsburg's fried chicken and waffle restaurant Sweet Chick makes a good one. It's an Apple Pie with Salted Caramel Sauce and Candied Bacon ($9).

What's New On Serious Eats

Now this isn't just your standard slice of apple pie—in fact it's not a slice at all. It's a circular single-serving pie that's served warm and surrounded on all sides with a thick and buttery crust coated with a sweet and salty streusel topping and a dusting of powered sugar. On the inside, the apples are soft and well-baked without being mushy. Their flavor is enhanced by a host of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves.

The pie is perfectly matched with a scoop of Il Laboratorio Del Gelato vanilla ice cream and a strip of candied bacon. Apple pie and vanilla ice cream are paired often for good reason, and the salted caramel and bacon don't hurt.

If this pie isn't enough to warm you up, try the Dark Chocolate Old Fashioned ($12) with King's County Bourbon that's been infused with Mast Brother's Chocolate.
