My best bite at the new Dinosaur Barbecue in Brooklyn wasn't the wings (awesome) or the ribs (awesomer). Don't get me wrong—the pits are running quite well here. But it was this fat slice of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie ($5) that impressed me most: chocolate wafer crust and an inch and a half of light, airy peanut butter mousse.
Okay, light and airy describes the texture of this pie, but not the deep blast of peanut flavor this mousse delivers. It's impressively rich, a wee bit salty, and not too sweet (the bittersweet chocolate crust takes care of that). The filling melts well, neither greasy nor grainy. It's about 1 1/2 times the size of your average pie slice, so you should take it down with a friend or two.
Dinosaur makes all their desserts in-house, and this pie is also available at their Harlem location.
