Bisous Ciao is primarily known for their macarons, and many consider them to be among the best in the city. But Bisous Ciao also prepares one specialty pastry or cake each day. Over the last year I've tried many of them, and they all share the same attention to detail and meticulous presentation as their macarons. The "Mure" ($5) is a superb blackberry verrine with three different blackberry components: preserves, creme and fresh blackberries.
When you plunge a small spoon down through the layers of the verrine, the resulting yield combines many great flavors. Sweet cream, tart blackberries, and tiny cubes of cake, which soak up the juices from the other layers. Then there's an almond crumble, adding crunch and a final layer of sweetness after the tart fruit.
If you like blackberries, this is a slam dunk for five dollars.
