Brooklyn-based Smorgasburg made its first inroads into Manhattan at Whole Foods Bowery; now it's staked out a second location farther downtown.
Located in the South Street Seaport, SmorgasBar is a gathering of some of the best-known food vendors from 'Burg, rallying together in an effort to revitalize an area that took some of the worst damage from Hurricane Sandy. Although many of the stores in the seaport are still closed, the docks are open to pedestrians, and vendors like Red Hook Lobster Pound, Asia Dogs, Pizza Moto, and Blue Marble Ice Cream are serving some of their finest food at the seaport.
Although it was raining buckets the day we visited SmorgasBar, the market is bound to get more popular as the weather warms and summer settles into the harbor. Click through the slideshow to see some of the food that vendors are selling at the seaport.
The market runs every day, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
