One of the great things about New York is what you can find in unexpected places. And on an industrial stretch of Jackson Avenue in Long Island City you can still find some great baked goods. The Sage General Store is home to one of the richest, most chocolatey brownies in the five boroughs.
The double chocolate ($3) is like a cross between a semi-sweet gift shop-style fudge and a fancy-pants flourless dark chocolate cake, with whole chocolate chips throughout. The bacon brownie ($3) is similar, but adds just enough bacon to bring some saltiness to go along with the sweet. You can't go wrong with either one, but if you order it to stay you can have it topped with Jack Daniels whipped cream at no extra charge.
