Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
There's no shortage of pita sandwiches in Midtown, but few are as customizable as the ones at Marrakesh. There are six filling options for the DIY vegetarian pita sandwich ($6.95), and you can pick up to three of them.
Pictured here: hummus, babaganoush, and large hunks of tangy feta (tabbouleh, falafel, and stuffed grape leaves are the others). By the time all the ingredients are packed into the thin wheaty pita and you add some tahini on top, you're basically looking at a dip combination plate in a sandwich, which means yes, it's more unwieldy than most. But those feta chunks are large enough to add the textural contrast that a kebab would, and as a vegetarian lunch nearby goes, it's not a bad thing.
Do note that this sandwich doesn't travel well—the pita turns soggy quickly—so get it to stay or don't take it too far.
