If you want something more subtle than the sweet loaf cakes at Pain d'Epices, the pistachio scone ($3) is the way to go.
The scone puffs and browns slightly in the oven but retains the firm-and-dense-but-tender qualities of a good scone, with a hint of citrusy, nutty flavors from the pistachio scattered throughout. Best of all: it's daintier in size than the all too common New York Frankenscones. You can actually eat this in one sitting.
