Some good news from Red Hook: after months of post-Sandy repairs, two neighborhood favorites—Fairway and Red Hook Lobster Pound—are back in business as of today.
We last spoke with the Pound in November just after the storm, when co-owner Susan Povich described the hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages that the Van Brunt Street store suffered. But they took the repairs as an opportunity to make improvements to the retail location, which they now think is better than ever. The Lobster Pound's truck is still undergoing repairs, but they hope to get it back on the road next month. Follow them on Twitter for updates.
Fairway also decided to add some improvements to their Red Hook location, including widening aisles and adding products. You can take a tour in this video:
They're celebrating the re-opening with a full schedule of events, and are opening their doors at 11 a.m.
One more piece of good news, though not as recent: Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pies, home of the chocolate-dipped swingle, is once again open at a new location, a short distance away from its original waterfront store.
