Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
We've enjoyed quite a few bites at Bowery Diner before, and their Smoked Whitefish Melt on Rye ($9) didn't let us down.
Packed with a smoky, briney fish salad that wasn't grossly creamy or fishy, this slightly sweet whitefish was a winner. The rye was toasted to a crunchy crisp that complemented the smooth fish perfectly, and the restrained helping of melted cheddar left the fish to be the star.
But we suggest you skip the tomato and lettuce that come between the fish and cheese. They're unnecessary additions—in December especially—and the sandwich is even tastier without them.
