Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
With Thanksgiving just a day away, it's time to get into the holiday spirit by eating as much turkey as possible. The All Natural Turkey Avocado Club ($10.50) at local didn't wow me with the protein alone, but the freshness and strong flavors of the other components made up for slightly dry turkey breast. Creamy avocado slices and a light coating of mayo add richness, and tomato and crisp romaine lettuce brought freshness and crunch.
But it's really all about the ultra-crisp, smoky bacon that packed a salty, savory flavor punch. Piled on toasted sourdough bread that held up to the hefty fillings, it made for a pleasantly rich bite balanced by plenty of crunch. I wouldn't go out of my way for this sandwich, but when I'm in Soho and hungry for some of that killer bacon and lots of fresh veggies, this club will do the trick.
