The New York City Wine and Food Festival SWEET event definitely delivers a sugary punch, whether you eat your weight in ice cream and cupcakes (which slap you in the face with some "we're not going anywhere" sass) or drink your fill of super-sweet cocktails. Indeed even the vibe is practically saccharine, with a punch-drunk crowd overflowing with love for New York City and its food-driven nightlife, the event made even sweeter by benefiting The Food Bank for New York City and Share Our Strength.
Chocolate treats definitely reigned supreme, with sponsor Godiva showing an impressive array of truffles passed by the male equivalent of dive bar shot-girls (think tall, buff and comfortable on Soho cobblestones). Elizabeth Karmel of Hill Country Barbecue took home the prize for audience favorite with her ridiculous PB&J Cupcakes, which were insanely fluffy, overflowing with puffy peanut butter frosting and bejeweled with Reese's Pieces. And then there were classy offerings from Laurie Jon Moran of Le Bernardin, Stephen Collucci from Colicchio and Sons, Joe Murphy of Jean-Georges and Mr. Jacques Torres himself.
