The fourth annual rendition of Meatball Madness helped kick off this year's epic New York City Wine & Food Festival, once again serving an ungodly number of meatballs to a sold-out crowd. Dozens of top chefs served their own take on the humble meatball, including the returning host, Food Nework star Giada De Laurentiis.
There was an exciting variety of styles, regional influences, and meat combos: we had everything from classic checked-table-cloth style balls to others with some surprisingly creative additions—pretzels in meatballs? Oh yes, and it was a very happy thing.
Ultimately names must be named and winners must be chosen: the people's choice award went to 2010 meatball champion Chef Donatella Arpaia of Donatella. The judges' pick this year was Chef Gabe Thompson of the soon-to-be-opened L'Apicio. Click through the slideshow to see some of our own picks from the night!
