Walking down the long carport to Pier 60 in Chelsea Piers, the smell of rich, savory food flew through the air. Stepping inside, the atmosphere was all about love and support for SHARE, an organization that brings together breast and ovarian cancer survivors and their families, offering a community of support.

The ninth annual A Second Helping of Life brought together some of the city's top female chefs, from the event's first Executive Chef Anita Lo to Amanda Freitag.

Both silent and live auctions benefited the organization and presentations were made with incredibly touching stories of survivor-ship and hope, honoring Amy A. Peterson (President, Nontraditional Employment for Women), Mailet Lopez (Founder, I Had Cancer), and Lynette Marrero and Ivy Mix (Co-founders, Speed Rack) and recognizing Alice Yaker for her distinguished service to SHARE.

But, we must admit, we were in it for the chefs and their offerings. Each chef brought an incredibly thoughtful, detailed and palate-pleasing dish to the table. And each chef was oozing with support for the organization and the uplifting, relaxing event. There were lots of smiles and lots of hugs.

And lots of happy bellies.
