Don't be fooled because it's cut into small slices. This burek slice from Bosnian treasure trove Ukus is freaking enormous, one quarter of a 9-inch round. And it's $5 for what's really an afternoon snack for two to three people, an easy to-go grab worth the ten minute walk from the Steinway Street R stop.
The dough isn't quite as shatter-crisp as what you'll find at Djerdan, but you gain heartier, more fresh-tasting fillings, not the grease delivery vehicles of lesser burek. Spinach and feta is lighter than the meat or straight cheese fillings, perhaps best for snacking, a good balance of salty-fatty against earthy green.
Between these awesome burek and the well charred cevapi, Ukus is one of my neighborhood go-to spots for awesome food at bottom shelf prices.
