A Sandwich a Day: Hot Cajun Roast Beef at M & O Market & Deli
A new sandwich every day.
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

M & O Market & Deli knows what they're doing. Although their Cajun Roast Beef Sandwich ($6.10 for the basic) isn't quite as excellent as their Portuguese Chorizo Hero, it's still better than most deli sandwiches I have tried in my life.
Sure, the roast beef isn't particularly Cajun, but it's tender and flavorful. The rest of its success comes from the master deli man—leave yourself in his hands and he'll take care of you well. On my visit, he added melted Havarti cheese, sliced tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. He prevailed again in layering Tom Cat Bakery's super fresh roll with the perfect amount of mayo.
Because the deli charges extra for all toppings, this sandwich ended up costing an extra 60 cents, but it's still a steal. Ordering the sandwich on a roll instead of a hero may be a wise decision unless you're famished; the size is much more manageable, and paying the hero premium comes at a much higher food coma risk.
