One of my favorite things to do on a free afternoon is walk into Union Square Cafe, nab a seat at the bar, and have dessert. Sometimes with espresso or tea, and sometimes with a cocktail. But dessert is a must. Blueberry Pie ($11) is on the menu this week, one wide slice, a flaky double crust outfitted in powdered sugar and ring of crème anglaise. The blueberries are plentiful and naturally sweet, whole berries accented with lemon juice. And the summer seasonality of it all is intensified with a perfectly smooth scoop of sweet corn ice cream. Alternate bites of ice cream with pie, or better yet, get it all one spoonful, and maybe we can just call in sick for the rest of the day.
