Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
Green tuna might not be the most appealing sight. Nobody was rushing to call dibs on this when it first arrived at the office. But it's green for a tasty reason: tarragon pesto. Instead of a gloppy mayo acting as the binder in this tuna salad sandwich, it's a bright, clean-tasting pesto mixed with dijonnaise for some creamy fattiness and a mustard bite.
It's spread on slices of multi-grain, and this is one of those breads that ain't messing around. The hearty, fibrous kind with sunflower seeds and a scattering of grains contained within the toasted bread and around its edges.
Sliced diagonally, these are two filling tuna sandwich halves. They're also rather tuna-y. Despite the pesto, 'naise, and crunchy bits of carrots, celery, and onions mixed in there, the fishiness very much comes forward; for fans of fishy funk, definitely. And since it's a West Village tea parlor, it's also not the cheapest tuna sandwich ($12).
