For summer, Maialino's dessert menu features Granita di Caffé ($6), an elegant two-part concoction of espresso ice and whipped cream. It's about as simple as desserts go, but often times (and especially in the heat), simple is best. The ice is shaved thin, a strong, heady brew, sweetened with a bit of sugar. Make sure to spoon up equal parts ice and that pure whipped cream in each bite. And if you have extra room, don't forget about Maialino's Olive Oil Cake—a classic topped with vanilla bean mascarpone.
