In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
I imagine most pulled pork sandwiches to be messy and overflowing with a pile of shredded meet. Not so of the pork sandwich ($9.00) at The Commons Chelsea, which is contained well in a soft brioche bun. The flavorful pork, a hair too dry, is topped with pickled carrots and onions, bib lettuce, and spicy mayo.
We're happy with the meat, though the pickles could use more pucker and crunch, and a single sheet of lettuce proved somewhat awkward. Does pulled pork need mayo? Fat-on-fat could be much for some, though it adds some moisture to the meat. Focus on the meat, and its pleasant porkiness, for best results here.
