We came to YaYa Tea Garden for its well crafted onigiri, but we keep coming back for its Tokyo Fried Chicken ($4.95). (Okay, we keep coming back for the onigiri, too.) There's something so satisfying about a crisp, moist fried chicken cutlet (just on the right side of almost-too-salty) over rice steamed so well you wonder why other places can't do a better job. There's some lightly cooked cabbage in there, but only enough to make you wish for more.
YaYa is fast becoming our antidote to flavor overload at SE HQ. When you need something mild after a couple meals, like a big plate of well executed rice with some simple, nicely fried chicken, come here. It's home cooking meets fast food.
