It's hot and all you want is something to cool you down that won't weigh you down. Enter Wooly's Ice. Danny Che, David Sat, and Kenneth Sa are the founders of Wooly's Ice, a Taiwanese and Hawaiian shaved ice stand currently at the South Street Seaport. Although they are a relatively young operation, they've created an incredible product. The texture of their shaved ice is more akin to fresh powdered snow or cotton candy than typical coarse, grainy versions elsewhere. In addition to a texture, the blocks of ice themselves are flavored, which makes for an especially intense final product.
Wooly's Ice won the "Best Dessert" award at the 2011 Vendy Awards and they're making a statement in their new location in Southstreet Seaport. Current flavors include original, green tea, mango, and strawberry (which is dairy-free). Our friend Liza de Guia of Food Curated put together an awesome video of their shaved ice in action. Wooly's will be appearing at the Great GoogaMooga Festival this weekend, so cool down with a visit to their stand!
