Housemade chocolate babka is sold by the slice at Back Forty West, just a $3 apiece. It's generously cut and fairly close to perfection. Most of the time it comes plain: dark chocolate melted within the swirls and folds of the soft, yeasty dough. But sometimes you get lucky and they tuck plump raisins or dried cherries into the loaf as well. If you're in the mood for something even more flaky and decadent, focus on the Apple Danish ($4), featuring cinnamon-scented apple slices tucked into puff pastry, well-browned and prone to shatter upon that first bite. It's perfect with a morning cup of coffee.
