It's the real most wonderful time of the year, when New York's summertime outdoor eating fairs come out for the season. We've seen Dekalb Market and Smorgasburg already; now the Hester Street Fair is back in action! (Also this weekend: the New Amsterdam Market, and Madison Square Eats is coming up soon.)
The fair is bigger than ever before. Old favorites like Melt Bakery and La Newyorkina have been joined by Luke's Lobster, Pies & Thighs, and—now in Manhattan below 202nd Street—Vendy finalist Patacon Pisao. We checked out the fair on opening day to chat with the vendors and dig into some serious chow.
The fair runs every Saturday through the summer, from 10 AM to 6 PM at the corner of Hester and Essex Streets (map). Pro tip: arrive before noon for short lines and minimal crowds. Take a look at the slideshow for all the bites of the day!
