It's no secret that we love Caracas Arepa Bar. And we're not shy to tell you about it: we've sampled their veggie options and taken a look behind the scenes at how they make their awesome Venezuelan arepas.
Even though I pay visits on a semi-regular basis, I never tried the Los Muchachos ($8). It's a little pricier than the others, but totally worth it for the double header of meaty grilled chorizo and salty, chewy fried white cheese. Sautéed peppers and jalapenos add sweetness and some juice to all this heft; this isn't a greasy, overwhelming sandwich, but it is a very satisfying one. This chorizo isn't like the loose Mexican or preserved Spanish types you may have had; it's finely ground and a little mild, but picks up charred grilled flavors beautifully. One of these with a killer banana milkshake will put you in Venezuelan sandwich heaven.
