Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
As I walked into Certé to pick up their sandwich of the month, the Spring Ahead ($8.95), I didn't necessarily have high hopes for my midday meal. The café looked much like any generic Midtown lunch spot. But as it turns out, Certé is more serious about their food than appearances might indicate, and everyone from Midtown Lunch to, well, us have taken notice.
I wasn't let down by my sandwich, either, which featured slow-roasted, tender lamb piled atop a nicely toasted baguette slathered in smoky paprika mayo. It also included ribbons of battered, fried asparagus that retained a surprising crunch even after a long subway ride. Another bonus? The sandwich comes with a teensy container of red cabbage slaw, flecked through with poppy seeds, and a classic dill pickle spear.
