It's noted as "bread pudding" ($9) on the dessert menu of Kutsher's Tribeca, but this chocolate babka dessert is more akin to a warm custard. A surprise if you expected a classic bread pudding made with cubes of babka, but if you're open to a chunky custard interpretation, then give this a chance. You won't be disappointed. The pudding is like a cross between flan, bread pudding, and custard. Hot, almost steamy and silky, the babka is chopped into tiny bits with melty chocolate in each spoonful. Vanilla ice cream makes a simple accompaniment; the poached pear rings in brandy-caramel sauce is far from an afterthought.
