Disclaimer: any attempt at scratching the childhood-born itch of the breakfast sandwich has this writer predisposed to positive degustation, and the Toby's Estate scrambled egg on a roll ($7.50) proves to be no exception to the rule. The Aussie cafe's short but sophisticated sandwich menu doesn't pull any punches, like in this egg-overflowing crusty roll filled with perfectly-scrambled cheddary eggs and—you what now?—"espresso-laquered bacon"? Said bacon is slightly candied, and comes across just a little sultrier than the norm: inventive without being too breakfast-meat-outré, and adding a subtle tingle to the standard egg-and-cheese trope. The roasted tomatoes add color—but tend to slither off. But that's okay. We're incredibly forgiving in the delicious breakfast sandwich department.
