Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
I have an unspoken rule about never ordering the same thing twice at a restaurant. Sure, there are exceptions, such as everything on the menu at Best Pizza, but such occasions run few and far between. So when I found myself ordering Calexico's Chipotle Pork Torta ($11) not once but thrice, I knew it was time for an official love letter.
This guy's got a few things going for it, including different outlines on top and bottom—chipotle cream "crack" sauce and black bean spread. But what really made me order it repeatedly: the pork. It's been slow-roasted for six hours and just dazzles with juicy flavor. The support of its neighbors avocado and pickled red onion don't hurt, either. All tortas come with chile-cilantro fries, which I've enjoyed in the past, but recently found lackluster. Upon recollection, there's but one missing ingredient to my french fry enjoyment: the jalapeño margarita.
