In the realm of not-surprising-developments, a spot serving sandwiches on waffles opening in Williamsburg. I mean, sweet and savory options? Hangover-curing potential? Uh huh, I think you're gonna like it here, Waffle and Wolf.
And it doesn't hurt that their waffles are pretty damn tasty. We tried the #12 ($11.50), listed on the menu as "the most popular combination," a giant waffle-taco-gyro filled with tomato, cheddar cheese, arugula, and avocado yogurt. Oh, and bacon—which is chopped up and baked in to the toasty edged waffle. The first bite was a little uneven—I mostly got tomato and avocado yogurt (a nice, tangy cool touch). But as the waffle pressed the ingredients together, the sandwich achieved a nice cohesion, with strong bacon-cheddar flavors balancing the fresh bite of the vegetables and yogurt.
Oh, and as for the hangover curing potential? Starting off with bacon-studded waffles, before you even get to the filling, pretty much confirms that it'll do the job. The things we do for research...
