Even to a bean-lover like myself, a white bean sandwich doesn't necessarily sound promising; you've got to dress up beans a lot before they're a filling that's strongly flavored enough to shine between two pieces of bread. But that's just what The Smile does with their Rosemary White Bean Spread sandwich ($10.50). The tender beans meet rosemary and a good bit of lemon and salt for a taste that's vibrant and sandwich-worthy, helped further by marinated Swiss chard and tomato jam. On multigrain bread, it's substantial and hearty without resorting to meat or cheese—a nice option for vegetarians or for anyone else.
