At The Dutch, the Grapple Pie ($10) comes with a perfect lattice crust. All buttery with the right balance between crisp and flaky. A grapple is a hybrid fruit that has the appearance of an apple but flavor and taste of grapes. (The best of both worlds?) The apples are tender to the fork in a sauce sweet with brown sugar, little grapes popping in each bite. There are slices of red wine poached pears and a wicked scoop of Rum Raisin ice cream to accompany. While the rum element might be faint in flavor, the plump golden raisins and frosted peanuts make this a very complete dessert. The Dutch is packed during lunch and dinner but if you come in the late afternoon and grab a seat at the bar, the place is all yours.
