At Bakeri Brooklyn in Williamsburg, the house-baked cookies are enormous, deep brown saucers. They're crisp at the outermost edges, and soft, gently chewy all the way though. The Chocolate-Peanut cookies are impossible to not love, studded with melting chocolate shards and halved peanuts, lightly toasted. There's a sprinkle of Maldon salt over the top of each cookie, and the savory kick of the salt pyramids comes through in each bite, a work in balance. Also keep your eyes out for the Chocolate-Hazelnut-Rosemary cookie. Same cookie base, replacing peanuts with hazelnuts and rosemary for salt. Even more sophisticated. On the shortbread cookie side, expect to find little buttery squares in flavors like sesame, espresso, lavender, coconut, and my personal favorite, the Earl Grey shortbread.
