A Sandwich A Day: The Italian from Heritage Meat Shop in Essex Street Market
A new sandwich every day.
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

A good Italian sandwich depends so much on the meats inside it, so it's little surprise that Heritage Meat Shop knows how to make one. The Italian ($8) is stuffed with a winning trio of coppa and appealingly fatty culatello (both from Salumeria Biellese) along with American-made prosciutto (depending on the day, either Edwards of Surrey, Virginia or Benton's Smoky Mountain Ham). The bread from Pain D'Avignon is just crunchy enough and a serious drizzle of olive oil finishes it all off perfectly.
