I can barely keep up with all the Shake Shacks opening around the country, but regardless of how many different concretes I've tasted, The Concrete Jungle from the original location in Madison Square Park remains my favorite to date. How can you go wrong with familiar flavors—a whirl of vanilla custard blended with hot fudge, peanut butter, and banana slices? It's like the best of all worlds collided into single cup that you can devour with a spoon. The ever-reliable custard is laced with streaks of hot fudge, and every other spoonful promises at least a bit of banana. But the best spoonful is when you get the gooey peanut butter wrapped around a slice of banana, custard melting away in the background, and perhaps a whiff of that chocolate-y slow oozing hot fudge.
So bring on the Wall-Nut Street concrete from the Battery Park location, Coffee Bean Brownie from the UES, and Shacky Road from the UWS—but The Concrete Jungle will always remain my favorite.
