I love the sort of Italian sandwiches that feature the meat that's stuffed inside and not much more. At DiPalo Selects, the venerable Italian grocer on the corner of Grand and Mott, they do just that. The sandwich ($4.99) contains thinly sliced prosciutto cotto, mortadella, and and a thin slice of provolone cheese. The meat is delicate, flavorful, and perfectly salty. It was hard to distinguish between the prosciutto cotto and the mortadella (I would have been fine with just the mortadella), but the cheese was a nice addition. It's all stuffed within a soft piece of pizza bianca that works just right for this sandwich, allowing the meat to be the star.
