Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
The good thing about Papa Lima in Williamsburg is that they have quite an extensive sandwich menu; the bad thing is that they seem to be out of a lot of ingredients, a lot of the time. But once I'd successfully ordered and bitten into my 'El Tiante' ($9), I was quite happy. It's like, but is not, a Cuban (and I appreciate that they didn't call it one): roast pork, swiss, and pickle, sure, but with mortadella as the second meat and a chipotle mayo adding some spice. It's pressed on a baguette that's a little harder to bite through than I would've liked, but otherwise, no complaints. I quite liked the inclusion of mortadella; unabashedly fatty, distinctive but mild, it added an interesting element but played well with the others, too. At $9, it's no cheap deli sandwich, but it's certainly a tasty and well-sized one.
