It may not come from the Milk Truck, and it may not have any unusual cheese combinations, but the grilled cheese sandwich at Westville West (one of three Westville establishments on the island) can certainly hold its own against New York's other melty sandwich options.
The sandwich comes on a base of what Westville refers to as a "Portuguese muffin," basically an English muffin that has traded in its chewy texture for one softer, lighter, and ultimately more bready. Its mix of cheddar and gouda is rich without feeling fancified, and the addition of bacon adds to the juicy-greasy factor (though really, not in a bad way). The bacon is thick-cut and smoky, echoing the char on the muffin's edges. Your best bet is to eat it in-store. While a grab-and-go style lunch may be enticing on a busy day, the cheese grease and bacon fat tend to render the muffin soggy and flat.
