Bouchon Bakery officially opens its second New York location in Rockefeller Center tomorrow, just across the street from the Today Show. Airy and sophisticated, it's difficult to imagine that it's same space that was once home to Dean and Deluca's. The layout is well-organized and efficient with a small seating section. Everything is prepared on-site in the large two-story kitchen area in the back of the bakery; take a peek at the kitchen though the glass windows on the right as you enter.
Expect to find a thoughtful though small selection of salads, soups, and sandwiches, including a tuna nicoise and a luxurious slow-roasted pork number with cornichons and cheese. But the real focus, as you can imagine, are pastries and desserts.
You'll find mint-chocolate tarts with a thin layer of a supremely moist chocolate cake—brownie tucked into the tart shell; a cool, fresh mint cream; a pair of crisp glazed mint leaves to finish.
Golden cream puffs are covered in toasty chopped hazelnuts, and filled with not one but two types of cream: a silky praline surrounding a heart of yuzu cream. There are also classic cream puffs if you so desire.
Looking for Bouchon classics? The beloved TKOs, chocolate bouchons, macarons, and Ho-Hos are in full stock. While both the Time Warner and Rockefeller Center Bouchon Bakery locations carry many of the same goods, each location will also have offerings exclusive to that bakery prepared by the individual pastry chefs.
