Lovage, Berried Treasures
Berried Treasures usually has the best signage at the market, but this week they were absolutely killing it. Is there a Lovage Council? If so, they should consider "It's sexy: Lovage" as their official slogan. Berried Treasures also had fiddleheads this week, and should have them for a few more weeks.
Goat Sausage, Ardith Mae Goat Farm
Ardith Mae recently added goat meat to their line of stellar handmade goat's milk cheeses. In addition to sweet and hot goat sausage, Ardith Mae is selling chops, leg roast, rib rack, ground meat and stew meat.
Green Garlic, Rogowski Farm
After the ramps come green garlic: looks like a scallion, tastes like garlic, without the overpowering flavor. Keep an eye out for this early spring treat; blink and you'll miss it.
Stinging Nettles, Rogowski Farm
Rogowski also had nettles, another more prickly sign of spring. It makes a wonderful tea or ingredient in a sautee, and many claim it has medicinal properties.
Frozen Heirloom Tomatoes, Queens County Farm
Tomato season is a long way off, but don't worry: Queens County Farm has you covered with their frozen supply of last year's stock. Just defrost and use in place of canned tomatoes in soups or sauce. It's like a time machine back to August!
Joe's Summer Blend, Red Jacket Orchards
Summer's not here yet--it's just starting to feel like spring--but Red Jacket Orchards has let loose their summer blend, a combination of apple and lemon juices that tastes like lemonade's even-more-refreshing cousin.
Kielbasa, Tamarack Hollow Farm
The sign says it all here, no? If you love Tamarack Hollow's bacon, try their hickory smoked maple cured kielbasa. And ham's on sale!
