A Sandwich A Day: Grilled Eggplant & Artichoke at DuMont

A Sandwich a Day

A new sandwich every day.

In this great country of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. --The Mgmt.

While others ordered eggs for brunch, the Grilled Eggplant & Artichoke Sandwich ($12) caught my eye. Promising hummus, feta, roasted tomato and peperoncini too, I was sure I'd found a winner. Though the focaccia was fresh, however, the sandwich was forgettable. Powerful players artichoke and peperoncini overwhelmed what should have been complementary contents, so that a number of components weren't discernible at all. I don't know about you, but I would rather taste each ingredient than merely read about it. Next time, I'll go for the DuMont Burger ($12.50).

However lackluster the flavor, the sandwich is large; the second half ended up being my dinner, while the nicely dressed side salad filled out the plate. Plus, the plate came with two pickles instead of the standard one. While it's not a sandwich I'd return for, it's one I was glad fed me twice.
