The name may be silly, but this is a serious slice of cake. Three golden layers of crème fraiche yellow cake, consistently moist with a dense, even crumb. Not excessively sweet, it's everything you'd want in a simple cake. It's the same yellow cake that shows up in Lulu's beloved Glazey River, only that one is topped with hazelnut buttercream, praline, and silky dark chocolate glaze. Rhapsody in Raspberry couples the crème fraiche layers with a generous helping of organic lemon custard, more tart than sweet, the gentle pink-hued raspberry buttercream tucked between layers and covering the cake. The cream is an all-butter affair, so don't forget to keep the cake at room temperature for an hour before eating. At $4.50 per hefty slice, it's both one of the better cakes in town and priced reasonably well.
