A Sandwich A Day: Smoked Salmon Baguette at The Lobster Place
A new sandwich every day.

Last summer we brought you word of the excellent made-to-order sandwiches at The Lobster Place in the Chelsea Market. Excellent prices, high-quality seafood, and chips and potato salad or coleslaw with every order? Count us in! The most recent member to join the regular sandwich menu is the Smoked Salmon Baguette ($7.95). A fresh baguette from Amy's Bread down the hall serves as the foundation for scallion cream cheese, capers dotted along the bottom, and paper-thin layers of the house-made vodka-dill smoked salmon. They take fish seriously at The Lobster Place, but they've got enough sense of humor and fun spirit to tuck in potato chips between the cream cheese and salmon. Unexpected salty crunches with every bite, a fun contrast to a sandwich with great flavors but, except for those chips, little textural interest. Your choice of coleslaw or potato salad; I prefer the latter, creamy with a vinegary tang. Pair with a cool, sweet Ginger Beer ($2.95) from England-based Luscombe Sodas and you're set for a memorable meal.
