Tu-Lu's Gluten-Free Bakery (formerly known as Tully's Gluten-Free Bakery) is home to some of my favorite cupcakes downtown, gluten-free or otherwise. Everyday chocolate, vanilla and red velvet flavors are rounded out with seasonal flavors and daily specials. On my last visit, that special was a Cherry-Vanilla Cupcake ($2.95), made with cherry juice and chopped dried cherries. A matching top of cherry buttercream, silky and tart, rounds out the cupcake. Keep in mind that Tu-Lu's moist cupcakes are more muffin-like, as opposed to the sweeter, cake-y cupcakes that dominate in this city. This goes for all their flavors, including the current seasonal special, a Chocolate-Peppermint combo that could give Thin Mints a run for their money.
