The Brunch Dish: Shredded Apple and Rolled Oats Pancakes at Five Points
Brunch menus to do your weekend right.

I've long sung the praises of the lemon ricotta pancakes at Five Points on Great Jones Street. They're half-pancake, half-cheesecake, really, with a tender, nearly foamy interior rich with ricotta and brightened with lemon zest. You need to think twice before dousing them in maple syrup; these delicate concoctions really don't need it.
So I was crestfallen when I saw they'd been removed from the brunch menu. Luckily, the Shredded Apple and Rolled Oat pancakes ($12) that have taken their place are quite delicious. Despite the inclusion of oats and apples, they're not dense or heavy, and the oats given them a sweet, earthy flavor. You'd almost feel healthy eating a giant platter of these if it weren't for the caramelized bananas on top, but they're miles better than any truly nutritious breakfast. The edges of each pancake are just caramelized, but the interior is moist; this place knows how to flip a flapjack.
