Tips and tricks for making the best sandwiches at home.
For something comfortingly classic in the Bronx, grab the Super Hero (small $6, large $7) from Joe's Italian Deli. Heaps of homemade mozzarella plus ham and sopressata spill out from the edges, with tender, sweet red bell pepper tucked inside. The lightly applied oil and vinegar make the interior of the bread juicy. Tasty and moist, the thickness of the mozzarella is a nice contrast to the very thin slices and restrained flavor of the pork. Filling but not overwhelming, it's basic in the best way (and big enough to split with a friend).
