Breakfast

Everything you need to make the most important meal of the day delicious.

East Village restaurant The Brindle Room started serving doughnuts last week, and we can't stop eating them. They're cake doughnuts with a bit of mashed potato in the dough, small but fairly priced at $1.50. Hang out and use the free WiFi, and you might rack up quite a bill on individually-brewed cups of coffee.

The doughnuts are extremely crisp on the outside, with a soft, slightly dense interior. But the focus here is really on the glazes and toppings. They have quite a hit of salt, which works especially well in the gooey caramel glazed version—think donut crossed with sticky toffee pudding. On Friday, they offered a new version with an intensely peanut-buttery chocolate glaze and a sprinkle of toasted coconut; we hope it makes a repeat appearance. Doughnuts are available on weekdays starting at 8 a.m., and starting at 11 a.m. on weekends, until the dough runs out.
