You don't go to Calle Ocho for the food; you go for the strong sangria and gentle prices. Eight kinds of spiked wine form a self-serve all-you-can-drink brunch bar that's the source of countless hangovers, and what Calle Ocho's food lacks in inspiration, it makes up for by encouraging plentiful use of the bar. Gallitos, a DIY breakfast taco platter for two ($28), is the perfect example: the ample portion made up of homemade tortillas, softly scrambled eggs, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, chorizo and hash browns begs you to eat slowly, to balance liquor with carbs, and take in the festive ambiance for as long as you wish.

It's practically impossible to finish, no matter how long you linger (and for real troopers, it's the perfect excuse for more rounds of drinks). Where guacamole tastes weak and watery, chorizo is spicy and addicting--the combo fits nicely into an endless stack of pliant corn tortillas and can be complemented by a Latin-inspired bread basket that rivals the best downtown.
