A Sandwich A Day: Henrique at City Sandwich
A new sandwich every day.
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

The Henrique ($8.95) at City Sandwich is a very sexy sandwich. He has all the right boxes checked (meaty substance, endearing cheesiness, vegetables for good measure), plus, he's exotic. The sandwich is filled with Alheira, a Portuguese vinegar sausage that is nothing like your ordinary hot dog—more like a smoky, potent hash, what I imagine Portuguese-style pulled pork barbecue would taste like. The rest of the sandwich is carefully calibrated around this attractive, lingering flavor: sweet sauteed onions, mozzarella, and tomato mellow it out, while wilted tendrils of steamed collard greens give it some green. All this on a crisp, fluffy baguette from a Portuguese bakery in New Jersey—arguably the best part of the sandwich.
So, you'd like to meet Henrique? I thought so.
